Standing Pilates for Balance

Standing Pilates is unique to Singapore Pilates Central & Rehabilitation. We are Singapore's only certifying studio to offer The Method Pilates Teacher's Training Program in Standing Pilates. Only certified Pilates Instrutors are qualified to teach Standing Pilates.

Standing Pilates is a full body exercise program that requires us to focus on how the body moves and reacts in order to balance. Standing Pilates is developed to teach correct alignment in functional positions. Constant practice leads to a neuro-patterning that will translate into functional, correct movement in standing, sitting, or bending over to pick up something. Standing Pilates is best done with aid of TYE4, an apparatus specifically developed for this program by The PhysicalMind Institute.

Standing Pilates vs Pilates Matwork

Standing Pilates and Pilates Matwork are both full-body exercises, but Standing Pilates adds more "real estate" to the equation. In general, Standing Pilates is easier to do if you are not terribly flexible but it demands more brain activity and focus because of the balance element. Most clients do a combination of both.

Benefits of Standing Pilates

  • Standing Pilates Exercises are weight bearing. Standing Pilates Exercies are done standing on both legs and then transferring the weight to one leg. Standing on one leg in women equals a weight bearing force of 4 times one's body weight. It is one of the best physical methods to increase bone density and prevens Osteoporosis.
  • Standing Pilates helps to prevent prolapse, which is the result of a weakened pelvic floor. If the pelvic floor is weak, the contents of the pelvis or internal organs can prolapse or fall. In Standing Pilates exercises, the pelvic floor muscles needs to be engaged, thereby strengthening it.
  • Standing Pilates exercises help to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles and prevent incontinence, as the Sphincteric muscles will be strengthened.
  • Standing Pilates help to improve focus and proprioceptors of the body. Total focus such that the body and brain is continuously connected.
  • Standing Pilates develops and enhance conscious breathing. Conscious rhythmic breathing is a challenge.
  • Standing exercises can be practised anywhere dressed in street clothes. Of course, just standing on one leg and working to align your body with length and space is standing pilates exercise. Trust me: if you reduce the actions that degrade the body, such as slumping and add better mechanics, the body will co-operate and improve.
